We have replaced parts of the fossil plastic in our new climate-smart packaging with sugar cane plastic.
With more than 320 million tonnes of plastic produced every year in the world, an incredible 40% is used for packaging. Alarmingly, almost all plastic consists of fossil resources, which means the more plastic we use, the greater the carbon footprint.
It simply cannot go on like this, which is why all our packaging will be made from 100% recycled or renewable material by 2030.
In the autumn of 2018, we started replacing the fossil plastic in our packaging with a plantbased alternative: plastic from sugar canes. The material is recyclable, renewable and has the same protective properties as fossil plastic. The coffee will taste just as good as before, perhaps even better.
Through using this incredibly climate-smart solution, our packaging’s environmental impact will be reduced by up to 34%.
In 1993, we became the first in Europe to remove aluminium from coffee packaging – a bold and forward-thinking step in the 1990s. Since then, we’ve continued to explore and develop climate-smart packaging, and are proud to announce that: By 2020, all our packaging will contain plastic from renewable resources. By 2030, all our packaging will be made from 100% recycled or renewable material.
